Barley sprouts are alkaline, which works to balance the PH in the blood. People and animals bodies tend to be acidic. The barley sprouts will help balance this out, which aids the natural healing processes to ward off infection.

  • Barley sprouts are rich in vitamins and minerals. They have as much as 400% more Vitamin A and 600% more Vitamin E than grass hay.
  • Barley sprouts have 30 times the B-1, 11 times the calcium and 15 times the protein as milk.
  • Barley sprouts have 3.3 times as much Vitamin C, 6.5 times the carotene and 5 times the iron as spinach.

Research done by Resource Research Association, Office of Science and Technology in partnership with 17 universities around the world
and in conjunction with the Japan Food Analysis Center found that in comparison to other feeds, barley sprouts are high in calcium and low in phosphorus. They are high in potassium and organic sodium, and have healthy amounts of selenium. This balance aids in the utilization of all minerals, leading to stronger bones and muscles.

Barley sprouts are packed with over 1000 enzymes. One of the most important of these is SOD (superoxide dismutase). This enzyme is called an anti-aging enzyme for its ability to repair cells. John Hopkins Medical Center says that “SOD is a powerful antioxidant which not only protects the cells from free radicals which are believed to be the primary culprit in aging and many other diseases, but is the only ingredient in our diet know so far to have the ability to cure cancer”, and that “Out of all foods tested, barley sprouts contains the most SOD, up to 7 times more.” Another enzyme found in large quantities in barley sprouts is Cytochrome Oxidase, which is absolutely essential for cell metabolism. Dr. Howard Lutz who is the director of the Institute of Preventative Medicine in Washington D.C. states about barley sprouts; “Barley sprouts are one of the most incredible products of this decade.”

Biologist Yasuo from the University of California, La Jolla. Found in Barley sprouts a substance called P4D1. He said “This substance not only has a strong anti-inflammatory action, but was shown to actually repair DNA in the cells of the body.” He reported in a Pharmacy Science Association meeting that P4D1 suppresses or cures pancreatitis, stomatitis, arthritis, inflammation of the oral cavities and also lacerations of the stomach and duodenum. He states “I found that barley sprouts are much stronger than steroid drugs in treatment, but have fewer if any side effects.”

Barley Sprouts are very high in chlorophyll. Chlorophyll has a molecular structure almost exactly like that of hemoglobin, the protein found in red blood cells. Our blood, however, contains an atom of Iron, while chlorophyll contains an atom of magnesium. It has been shown in experiments with anemic animals, red blood cell count, even in the most anemic animals returned to normal within 4 to 5 days after chlorophyll has been administered. Sprouted grains metabolize starches and sugars better than grasses or legumes, so it is not a ‘hot’ feed. Sprouted barley being a living green plant is 90% water, so it helps eliminate colic, stomach ulcer, laminitis and other problems associated with dry feeds.

Sprouted grains as previously mentioned are not only organic but also meet the USDA “grass-fed beef” standards in marketing.
